Apple, please make some wireless headphones

There are a lot of things I’d like to see Apple do, those that know me will expect me to spend this post going on about a how much I want a new Apple TV (don’t worry, I’ll do a post on this at some point).

When Apple announced FaceTime everyone was shouting about how video calling was already available, yes, we all know it was already available but it never actually worked properly. When Apple creates a product they make something is intuitive and functional.

By now you’re thinking, “why is he harping on about this?” Well… I was walking into work this morning listening to music on my iPhone and with every twenty or so steps one of my headphones would fall out because of the movement of the wire. This brought me to my revelation… Apple should make a set of wireless headphones.

I know what you’re thinking, hang on a minute, you could just drop down to your local electronics store and pick up some bluetooth headphones. This is where FaceTime ties in, both of these concepts have been done but never successfully.

Bluetooth headphones are flawed by their method of communication, Bluetooth, it isn’t capable of transferring the audio at a sufficient rate to provide adequate sound quality and is prone to dropouts. With the the sheer quantity of audio capable Apple products they are in a unique position to shape the portable audio industry in this way.

If apple were to implement a new wireless technology (or reuse a newer wireless standard) and roll it out in their next generation of iPod (and iPhone) devices headphone manufacturers would quickly follow suit to push out compatible headphones.

Awesome idea, use glyphs to name your iPhone folder (you need iOS4 of course). Click on the picture for more details.

iPhone 4 23rd July Australian release date rumour

iphone4Rumours are going around that Apple Store employees have been told that they are not allowed to take leave on the 23rd of July and should be available to start work at 7am. Could be nothing but I have a feeling this is it. This comes in line with Apple reiterating that the iPhone will be released in Australia in July.

…will be available in an additional 18 countries by the end of July—Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

MyKeePass for keepass on your iPhone

I’ve spent a good while looking for a decent cross platform password manager. I used keepass for a long time, I tried 1Password as it allowed me to sync nicely with my iPhone and I also use xmarks for syncing between browsers. I keep jumping back and forth between one or more of these options primarily because there was no good integration for keepass to my browser or my iPhone.

Thankfully I just found out that one of these issues has been solved. MyKeePass is an iPhone app for keepass. I discovered it when searching the app store on a whim for “keepass”. It works just as described… launch the application, push the icon to import a kdb file, and then go to your computer and browse to the provided URL (your iPhone becomes a web server to allow you to upload the file). That’s it, you’ve imported your keepass file.

It gets better, currently I use Dropbox extensively for file syncing including syncing my kdb file for keepass between my macbook at home and my Thinkpad at work. The new version of MyKeePass is going to offer the ability to pull down kdb files from a remote server (like dropbox)! For me this is the ultimate for password management.

Now, if only there was a proper cross-platform browser integration feature for Keepass. (any suggestions?)

1Password 3 released with bonus

Agile Web Solutions have just released 1Password 3 with some exciting new features; the most interesting of which is the 1PasswordAnywhere which when combined with Dropbox provides you with access to your passwords from pretty much any computer. And if all that wasn’t good enough you can actually get 1PasswordPro for the iPhone for free at the moment (I bought it about a month ago for around $10 so I’m not so happy about it being on promotion for free at the moment). Anyway, folks, enjoy…
